07.06 | Ukrainian Book Club at the Passage of Dialogue!

We warmly invite everyone to the monthly meetings of the Ukrainian Book Club, where we discover and explore a wide range of literature.

Meeting details

When? 7 June, 17:00
Where? Passage of Dialogue (Przejście Dialogu), ul. Świdnicka 19
Free entry, no registration needed!

Selected book: “Смерть лева Сесіла мала сенс” (The Death of Cecil the Lion Made Sense) by Olena Styazhkina. The story is set in Donbas over a period of several years: the reader follows characters who are at first held back by a Soviet mentality. As a result of the war, they undergo profound changes in how they understand themselves and their country – like the dentist who becomes a military surgeon, or the cosmetics saleswoman who becomes a sniper instructor. The characters are swept up in the whirlwind of history and are reborn as Ukrainians.

We will keep you posted about future meeting dates!

About the club

The “Ukrainian Book Club” was founded at the end of 2021 by three Ukrainian writers: Yaroslava Lytvyn, Anna Demina and Larysa Rudak. Later another writer, Jana-Maria Kushnerova, joined the group. Since September 2023 the meetings have been held at the Passage of Dialogue.

We read and discuss contemporary and classic Ukrainian and foreign prose. What we read is up to you, because the participants themselves suggest the books for discussion.

We talk in Ukrainian, so it is a great opportunity for anyone living in a Polish-speaking environment to brush up their Ukrainian.
