Language is us. It is our origins, our memory, our identity. It is what unites us as people.

This Saturday the Passage of Dialogue (Przejście Dialogu) will host a meeting of the Belarusian-language book club Wroclaw_Knizhny_Klub.
This time the book chosen is the tragicomedy by Yanka Kupala, “Tutejšyja” (The Locals), in which Belarus is portrayed metaphorically as something in between Russia and Poland. The author expresses deep concern for the spiritual heritage of the Belarusian people and their national consciousness, calling for a struggle against the “tutejšy” (“just from here”) mentality: a lack of principles, an underdeveloped awareness, passivity and short-sightedness.
