The Świdnicka Underpass (Przejście Świdnickie), one of the most distinctive spots on the map of Wrocław, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the Passage of Dialogue (Przejście Dialogu), which is located in this historic space, will open a photography exhibition that will take us back in time and show how the place has changed over the decades.
Opened in 1975, the Świdnicka Underpass quickly became more than just a piece of transport infrastructure. Over the following decades it served as an informal centre of city life – a place for meeting people, small-scale trade, and artistic and social activity. For many Wrocław residents, it is a space inextricably linked with the city’s everyday life.
To celebrate the anniversary, the Wrocław Centre for Social Development (WCRS) invites you to the opening of an exhibition of photographs showing the Świdnicka Underpass before its redevelopment in 2016. The photographs were taken by Łukasz Bąk, Kamil Cichoń, Jakub Kamiński and Marcin Smoła. The exhibition is curated by Karol Krukowski – a photographer and co-author of the 2016 booklet “Przejście”, which became the starting point and inspiration for this exhibition.
The opening will take place on Wednesday, 30 April 2025 at 17:00 at the Passage of Dialogue (ul. Świdnicka 19, Wrocław). Free admission.
The exhibition will remain on permanent display at the Passage of Dialogue as a tribute to the history of this place.
The “50 Years of the Świdnicka Underpass” exhibition is an opportunity to look back at this space with the benefit of hindsight – as a place that has been part of Wrocław residents’ lives for five decades and keeps changing along with the city.
