The Wrocław Centre for Social Development (WCRS) invites you to the third edition of its literary and philosophical meetings, held as part of the Wrocław Educational Concept (Wrocławska Koncepcja Edukacyjna). Our discussions will start from literary texts chosen to inspire philosophical or existential reflection. We will also place them in a philosophical, or more broadly humanistic, context, so that ideas can shed light on one another and bring out meanings that are not always visible at first glance.
Why should you join?
1) For the pleasure of reading and thinking.
2) For the pleasure of spending time on things that are beautiful and wise.
3) To see yourself and your own concerns mirrored in literature and to discover shared experiences.
4) To meet other people who like to think.
5) To broaden your humanistic horizons – useful for the Polish matura exam, especially at extended level.
Who are the meetings for?
The meetings are aimed at secondary school students who like to think, talk and learn more, and who are passionate about literature, philosophy and psychology.
When? Mondays, 16:00–17:00 (from 6 November)
Where? Passage of Dialogue (Przejście Dialogu), ul. Świdnicka 19, 50-438 Wrocław.
Participation is free, but registration is required: registration link!
The meetings will be led by Agata Salników, a Polish teacher and mentor at the Academy of Creative Civic Initiatives (Akademia Twórczych Inicjatyw Obywatelskich).
Where did the idea come from?
1) Polish lessons at secondary school are largely geared towards preparing for the matura exam, so there is not always enough time for the texts read in class to become a source of reflection on life, existence or philosophy – even though that seems to be their main purpose. These meetings are an attempt to give them back that role.
2) Reading and thinking need time: the meetings are meant to create an opportunity to pause and explore the depths of a text.
3) Wisdom is born in dialogue – conversations always inspire thought and open up new perspectives and meanings.
