Kaleidoscope of Thoughts: Literary and Philosophical Meetings

The Wrocław Centre for Social Development (WCRS) invites you to the second edition of its literary and philosophical meetings, held as part of the Wrocław Educational Concept (Wrocławska Koncepcja Edukacyjna). Our conversations will start from literary texts selected to inspire philosophical or existential reflection. We will also place them in a philosophical or, more broadly, humanistic context, so that ideas can shed light on one another and bring out meanings that are not always visible at first glance.

The meetings will be led by Agata Salników, a Polish language teacher and mentor at the Academy of Creative Civic Initiatives (Akademia Twórczych Inicjatyw Obywatelskich).

The project is aimed at secondary school students from Wrocław and the Wrocław metropolitan area who:

  • like to think, talk and know more,
  • are passionate about literature, philosophy and psychology.

Why – where did the idea come from?

1) Polish lessons at secondary school are largely geared towards preparing for the matura (school-leaving) exam, so there is not always enough time for the texts students read to become a source of reflection on life, existence or philosophy – and yet this seems to be their main purpose. These meetings are an attempt to restore that function.

2) Reading and thinking need time: the meetings are intended as an opportunity to pause and explore the depths of a text.

3) Wisdom is born in dialogue – conversations always inspire thought and open up new perspectives and meanings.

What for?

1) For the pleasure of reading and thinking.

2) For the pleasure of spending time on what is beautiful and wise.

3) To see yourself and your own concerns in the mirror of literature and to discover shared experiences.

4) To meet other people who like to think.

5) To broaden your humanistic horizons – which will come in useful for the Polish matura exam, especially at extended level.

Participation in the meetings is free of charge. Everyone interested is warmly invited to sign up here
