We invite you to a meeting devoted to Leokadia Wieczorek – a girl who, as a child, was deported to the Third Reich for forced labour. Mrs Leokadia Wieczorek has been nominated for the title of “Wrocławianka Roku” (Wrocław Woman of the Year). This is a perfect opportunity to recall the story of a Wrocław resident whose life became a testament to courage and strength in the hardest of times.
As a child, Leokadia Wieczorek had to wear the letter “P” – the badge used to mark people of Polish origin in camps and in forced labour in the Third Reich. Her story is one of a childhood scarred by war, of loss and forced labour, but also of hope and perseverance. Today the memory of these events is extremely valuable – it helps us understand the tragic fate of the youngest victims of the occupation and shows how the war affected the lives of entire families.
The meeting will be led by Kamilla Jasińska, Deputy Director of the Wrocław Branch of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN). She will outline the historical context of the deportation of children to the Third Reich and talk about how these tragic events left their mark on the lives of many Polish children.
