Pilaster, Herm and a Paper House – Polish-Ukrainian architecture and education workshop for adults

A creative educational workshop in which art historian Aleksandra Podlejska will talk about the elements and decorations that have shaped architecture through the ages. Participants will find out what a pilaster and a herm (from the title) are, among other things, and will take a closer look together at Wrocław’s buildings – historic ones as well as post-war and contemporary ones – to identify them and spot the elements discussed during the workshop. Everyone will have the chance to design their own building on paper and then assemble it from ready-made parts, including not only windows and doors but also the architectural details we have talked about. The workshop will introduce the principles of composition and construction of particular buildings and, we hope, help us better understand why certain elements – often seemingly unrelated to the building as a whole – appear on their façades. We invite young people and, above all, adults to join us in building with paper and cardboard. The workshop will be interpreted into Ukrainian.
