Polish Cinema for Beginners: “Polyland”

Newcomers, join us for the autumn screenings of the 16th season of PCfB!
Here it is – autumn has arrived, and with it another series of encounters with Polish cinema with English subtitles. We invite you to a film screening followed by a discussion. On 13 October at the Passage of Dialogue (Przejście Dialogu) we will watch a film together and talk about what it has to say. More information below!
About the 16th season of PCfB
These are turbulent times. We planned to explore the theme of newcomers as portrayed in Polish cinema, without realising how topical and necessary the subject would become. We invite you to a series of ten indoor and open-air meetings over the coming year, revolving around migration and focusing in particular on our neighbours from Belarus, Germany and Ukraine.

About the film
“Polyland” (Dasa Raimanova, PL, GB, 2018, 71’) gives voice to three strong women from three different backgrounds.
The women portrayed in the film were born in Poland and live in Wrocław. Ania, Miriam and Elmelda want to be heard not as “the other”, but as members of Polish society. The film shows the hardships of their lives and their work, up to the moment of a sudden shift on the Polish political scene.
Stay with us after the film to talk about what we have watched together!
See you at the screening!
