“How to Speak So as to See?” Inclusive language with Mateusz Adamczyk

Zaproszenie na spotkanie z Mateuszem Adamczykiem o języku inkluzywnym w Przejście Dialogu! Zdjęcie Mateusza.

Join us for a meeting with Mateusz Adamczyk in the “Pokaż mi język” (Show Me Your Language) series, where we will talk about inclusive language.

The language we use has been shaped over centuries and does not always keep pace with a changing world. It evolves and tries to catch up with reality.

During the meeting, we will look together at the truths and myths surrounding inclusive language. How is inclusiveness reflected in language? What are gender-neutral forms? Can feminine grammatical forms be “unnatural”? What is inclusive exclusion? And, above all, how can we speak so as to see everything and everyone?

“Pokaż mi język” (Show Me Your Language) is the guiding slogan of the autumn season at the Passage of Dialogue, chosen as a symbol of the power of language and of our voice. During the season we will hold conversations about inclusive language, feminine job titles and the problems of linguistic discrimination. We will consider how new residents influence the language and how the Polish language influences them. We will also find out how language can become a political tool, and learn about the power of our mother tongue and our voice.

You can hear more in the programme Oblicza Wrocławia (Faces of Wrocław) on Radio Rodzina, featuring our colleagues from the Programme Department: listen to the programme!
