What is life like in Cameroon? What is its ethnic make-up? What do Cameroonians do day to day? What role does music play? What are education, cultural life and work like?

We will talk to the band members about everyday life, making music and being part of a multi-ethnic, intercontinental group of friends at the meeting on 25 October.

The meeting will be enlivened by African sounds, a presentation of traditional instruments and singing.

Blueverest – a Polish-Cameroonian band formed in 2017. Starting out as a duo of Michel Bekombo (Cameroon) and Marta Wilgosz (Poland), it wrote and released eight songs about hope, love, and our relationship with God and nature, blending European and African cultures. As a volunteer, Michel Bekombo ran choir sessions for children from an orphanage in Dibombare (Cameroon), while Marta Wilgosz, also a volunteer, organised and led activities for street children in Blantyre (Malawi). Later, as a band – together with Brice Ngouand (bass) and Romeo Minkoulou (keyboards) – they volunteered on a mission in Ayos (Cameroon), where they taught music, maths and electricity at a primary school and ran evening singing workshops for the whole community. Marta Wilgosz also led communication workshops for teachers. Michel Bekombo still runs choir sessions for members of his church. The musicians play regularly in various music clubs in Douala (Cameroon) to support their families, and Michel also gives drum and singing lessons. Blueverest is a testament to hard work, tolerance and respect for different cultures, genders and social backgrounds.
