We encourage you to visit Passage of Dialogue (Przejście Dialogu), where the post-competition exhibition of the 2nd Youth Social Advertising Showcase is on display until 18 December 2024. This year’s theme – “The Social Revolution Starts with Me” (PeMrSa) – offers a unique opportunity to see work by young creators from all over Poland who use graphic design, photography, film and radio spots to address the most pressing social issues, from ecology to war and inequality. It is an invitation to reflection, change and open dialogue. More information about the exhibition can be found here.

“Przejście” (The Underpass) – a talk by Dr Karol Krukowski on the history, significance and atmosphere of the Świdnicka Underpass (1975–2015)
3.12, 12:20-13:45
Free admission!
Every city has its magical places – buzzing with life, full of charisma and regarded as iconic – that nevertheless never make it onto postcards. For the four decades of its existence, the Świdnicka Underpass was exactly that kind of place. A city in miniature, a lens that brought Wrocław’s troubles and problems into focus, a stage for history. The Underpass lived a life of its own, regardless of social and political change. The whiff of anarchy that hung in the air from the very beginning and its underground atmosphere drew in, like a magnet, everyone who did not feel at ease above ground.
“Przejście” is not only the story of a place that no longer exists. It is also a story about disappearance itself. About passing from one state into another. About what remains. About the traces a place leaves in collective memory.
“Przejście” is a publication combining photographs, text and sound, devoted to the Świdnicka Underpass (1975-2015). It brings together photographs taken by five photographers in the final months before the Underpass closed, memories, urban legends and stories about the place collected from the people of Wrocław, as well as a radio documentary.
About the speaker: Dr Karol Krukowski – assistant professor in the Department of Graphic Arts at SWPS University. A lecturer who popularises historical, theoretical and practical knowledge of photography. Author of publications including Przejście (ECoC 2016), Pręgierz (OKiS 2021), Rozbite – marzenie (BWA Wrocław 2012) and Niewidzialna Mapa Wrocławia (OPT 2006).

Workshop: “Switch On Diversity: Decoding Visual Messages in Social Advertising”
3.12, 14:00-15:30
Free admission!
In this workshop we will analyse how social advertising posters address identity, race, disability and other difficult and important issues, focusing on how colours, symbols and visual layout shape the way the message is received. Participants will explore how these elements relate to significant social problems, evoking particular emotions and either strengthening or weakening the message. The aim of the workshop is to develop skills in the critical analysis of visual messages.
About the facilitator: Paweł Szlotawa – graphic designer, illustrator and teacher at the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Technical Secondary School No. 15 in Wrocław.
