Join us for an unconventional philosophical debate in the “Philosophical Survival School” series, in which we will consider the ethical consequences of assuming that free will is merely an illusion. Philosophy students from the University of Wrocław will introduce participants to the question of whether such a belief could be beneficial or harmful to society. Three different positions will be presented:
– Wider acceptance of the belief that free will is an illusion would be desirable from an ethical point of view – it would bring more social benefit than harm, stimulating moral development;
– The opposing position – the belief that there is no free will would be ethically harmful, leading largely to negative moral and social consequences;
– No significant impact – believing in free will or its absence would have no real effect on social ethics.
Could a discussion about the possibly illusory nature of free will be the key to understanding ourselves better? Join the open debate and let us look for answers together!
