Join us for the next meeting of the “Philosophical Survival School”, where we will look at today’s media from the perspective of classical rhetorical theory. The ancient art of persuasion described by Aristotle is reflected today in the world of the internet. The rhetorical triangle (ethos, pathos, logos) remains the foundation of communication, even though it has taken on new, digital forms.
– Is social media a modern agora?
– Why do emotions (pathos) dominate over argument (logos) today?
– How do clickbait, fake news and media authorities work?
Together we will analyse the mechanisms that govern communication in the 21st century and consider whether a balance between reason, emotion and credibility is possible.

Philosophical Survival School. About the project
“Philosophical Survival School” is a series of open discussions, debates and lectures created by the Wrocław Centre for Social Development (WCRS) in cooperation with the Applied Philosophy Student Research Group at the University of Wrocław. The third edition of the series starts on 17 April and will explore the philosophy of science, the philosophy of yoga, rhetoric in the media, Władysław Tatarkiewicz’s theory of happiness and philosophical interpretations of computer games. The initiative is aimed at anyone seeking philosophical sensitivity in getting to know themselves and the world around them, and who would also like to share their own experience.
